A special message from Yeshayah Goldfarb, Vice President of Basebal Resources & Development for the SF Giants: I am reaching out on behalf of the San Francisco Giants to invite members of the Japantown Task Force network who are fluent in both English and Japanese, to a Baseball Careers Workshop we are hosting on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Oracle Park (or virtually). As baseball continues to be an international game, we have found an impactful skill, some Giants staff possess across all parts of the organization, is that of language. We have countless example of bilingual staff members bringing individuals, communities, and cultures closer together in unique and valuable ways. As we hire our next athletic trainer, coach, scout, nutritionist, analyst, engineer, content creator, business developer, marketing specialist, sales professional, event planner, community relations representative, etc., we hope to increase the number of candidates who are interested in baseball, qualified for our open positions and are bilingual. Join KOHO’s 3rd Annual BonPOP event, 2-6 pm, Saturday, August 31 at the Celebration Garden inside the San Francisco Botanical Gardens in Golden Gate Park. BonPOP is a reimagined Obon festival that celebrates Japanese culture and tradition through dance, song, and rituals. We expect a crowd of over 100 people to attend. This event itself is free but participants must pay an entrance fee of $17 to enter the Gardens or show evidence of San Francisco residency for free admission. Free Obon practice dates: Wed 8/21, Fri 8/23, Mon 8/26, and Wed 8/28 from 6:30-8 pm at the KOHO Co-Creative Hub located on the 2nd Floor of the Japan Center East Mall, above US Bank and Daiso. New 2025 Osaka Expo dance: The video for a new dance developed to promote the 2025 Osaka Expo can be viewed at this link. The obon practices will go over this dance. JAPANTOWN HOUSING SURVEY We’ve received over 100 responses! Please take 5 minutes to complete this survey on Japantown housing options. Japantown needs more housing, especially for those who would like to live here but can’t afford to live here. In order to keep its unique cultural identity, it needs residents who will support its businesses, community organizations, and cultural/faith institutions. The Japantown Task Force would like your help to complete this short survey on housing in Japantown.
