SAVE the DATE: Osaka Way/Buchanan Mall Upgrades Project Open House, 5/31, 5-8 pm @ The Center, 1840 Sutter! The Planning Department will give a short presentation at 6 pm (will be recorded) Please join us for refreshments and door prizes! For those of you with children, kid's activities will be provided. Interpretation and printed materials will be available in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. This event is free and open to the public. RSVP here. A message from the National Japanese American Historical Society: Join us Saturday, 5/27, 1-3 pm at Presidio Tunnel Tops for MUSIC MAKERS: Bands Behind Barbed Wire, a FREE outdoor jazz concert. Presented by the National Japanese American Historical Society, this Memorial Day Weekend event is in conjunction with Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Bring friends and family, your picnic gear and your goza (lawn mat), and experience this special performance as the Akira Tana Ensemble performs music in honor of the legendary Nisei (second generation) jazz musician George Yoshida. SAVE THE DATE: The Japanese Benevolent Society of California (Jikeikai), with the support of the Japanese American Religious Federation (JARF), will hold its Annual Memorial Day Service at 11 am, Mon, 5/29, at the Japanese Cemetery, 1300 Hillside Boulevard, Colma. Each year, over 200 people attend this annual service.
