This week, we introduce two sections to the newsletter: (1) Japantown Task Force announcements, and (2) Japantown Cultural District announcements. As you may know, San Francisco designated Japantown as the first official Cultural District. New Hours at the Japan Center Garages!

A message from the Japantown Community Benefit District and the Japan Center Garages: “NEW HOURS for the Japan Center Garage Main and Annex as follows: Main Garage: M-F, 5 am - 11 pm/Sat-Sun, 9 am - 11 pm. Fillmore Street Annex Garage: M-F, 6 am-10 pm/Sat-Sun, 10 am-10 pm. Exiting Garage After 10 pm: Customers can still get their cars out by following these instructions: 1. Pay ticket at pay station as usual 2. Go to ticket gate and insert ticket (you can also insert credit card here) 3. Press intercom button to alert Command Center 4. Yellow gate arm will lift then metal gate will open to exit
Monthly card members: 1. Go to gate scan card 2. Press intercom button to alert Command Center 3. Yellow gate arm will lift then metal gate will open to exit.”

本館: 月～金、午前5時～午後11時／
土～日、午前9時～午後11時 Fillmore Street 別館: 月～金、午前6時～午後10時／ 土～日、午前10時～午後10時 午後10時以降の出庫:
下記の手順で車を出すことができます 1. 通常通りチケットを支払う。 2. 改札に行き、チケットを挿入します。(クレジットカードの挿入も可能。) 3.インターホンボタンを押し、指令センターに連絡をします。 4. 黄色いゲートのアームが上がり、金属製のゲートが開いて出庫できます。

Exciting news! After pandemic-related delays and a budget shortfall that has since been addressed thanks to U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi and California State Assemblymember Phil Ting, the Japantown Peace Plaza Renovation bid advertisement was posted: Project (Source Event) ID No. 0000008378. 素晴らしいニュースが飛び込んできました！

Presented by the Japanese Community Youth Council on Sunday, Sept 24, 2023. The 5k, 10k, and Keiki Run will take place at Crissy Field located in San Francisco. Save 10% by registering here before Wed, 8/30! A message from JCYC: “Our hearts are with everyone affected by the wildfire in Maui. JCYC will be donating a portion of the proceeds from this year's SF Aloha Run For Hope to the Hawai'i People's Fund: Maui Aloha The People's Response. The fund will provide immediate on the ground support to organizations providing relief efforts. Proceeds will also support the inaugural Julie Matsueda Believe Scholarship in addition to supporting the Excellence, Pathways, and Thomatra Scott scholarship programs. Register here. A message from Linda Mihara: “Sensei Masato Kawahatsu is a Konko minister, martial arts instructor, author and has been teaching Japanese calligraphy for over 25 years. Recently, his newest book Arigatou One Hundred Times A Day was translated and published in English. Arigatou means ‘Thank you.’ When Sensei Kawahatsu was young, he fell ill for many months. During this time he realized the importance of gratitude and appreciation. This practice had miraculous effects not only on his health but on his philosophy and life. This event will include a Shodo (Japanese Calligraphy) demonstration and conclude with an introduction of his book.
