3/18 Grateful Crane Ensemble Performance in Berkeley

The Los Angeles-based Grateful Crane Ensemble returns to the SF Bay Area for a one-day only live performance of Soji Kashiwagi’s “Sentimental Journey: a Nisei Life in Song,” composed of 20 beloved songs of the Nisei generation. This event is on Sun, 3/18, 12:30 pm at the Freight & Salvage Theater on 2020 Addison Street in Berkeley, $27 per person. The Berkeley JACL chapter is offering free tickets to any Nisei who wish to attend. RSVP for tickets to berkeleyjacl@gmail.com with “Sentimental Journey” in the subject line. Japantown CHHESS Community Briefing POSTPONED

We expect to release the draft Japantown Cultural History, Housing, Economic Sustainability Strategy document for public review any day now. However, the Community Briefing, originally scheduled for tonight has been POSTPONED to a future date.

Congratulations to Yasukochi’s Sweet Stop, James Beard Award Semifinalist!

On January 25th, the James Beard Foundation named our beloved Yasukochi’s Sweet Stop, located inside Super Mira Market in Japantown, as a semifinalist for the 2023 Restaurant and Chef Awards in the category of Outstanding Bakery. Winners will be announced at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards Ceremony on June 5, 2023 in Chicago. Go Sweet Stop!
