Don is scheduled to speak between 6-7 pm. Here is a message from Don to the community:
We convened in June of 2021, and on June 1, 2022, fulfilled our first charge of publishing a sweeping, nearly 500 page report drawing a through line from the harm of 246 years of slavery, 90 years of Jim Crow and racial terror, and decades more of continuing discrimination---to today’s outcomes—which are at once shocking but sadly, not surprising. Here’s the link to the Report. It’s a lot to read, so check out the 29 page Executive Summary, or the Introduction which give previews to the Report. Or you can browse selected chapters such as “Segregation—the Root of Many Evils” which covers housing. The Task Force is now focusing on developing recommendations for remedies to be submitted to the Legislature by June 30, 2023 at which point the Task Force will sunset. Simultaneously, we are developing recommendations to educate the public as to why reparations are long overdue. Please join us in-person at the National JACL Headquarters building, 1765 Sutter Street, or via Zoom. The Zoom link is included in the meeting agenda which will be posted here before the meeting.
