Just 6 days remain before the 12N, Thurs, 10/5 deadline for artists to apply for $50K grants and arts organizations to apply for $100K grants. Arts Commission "Arts Impact Endowment" Grants: $50K for individual artists, $100K for arts organizations. Two year grant, July 1, 2024-June 30, 2026. The AIE Project-Based Initiative prioritizes small and mid-sized organizations AND individual artists who are deeply rooted and connected to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC - including Asian Americans; Latinos/Latinas, Pacific Islanders,etc.), Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Asexual, Intersex, and more (LGBTQIA+), People with Disabilities, Women, and other communities that are identified in the Cultural Equity Legislation. THIS WEEKEND - Join Brenda Wong Aoki and First Voice in the world premiere of Soul of the City, an spectacular multimedia musical drama that combines traditional Japanese theater and music with contemporary spoken word and Asian American jazz. Performances are Sat, 9/30 and Sun, 10/1 @ 4 pm, at the Presidio Theater. Tickets available here. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Not too late to register! The 2023 JCCCNC Tabemasho annual fundraiser on Saturday, October 7, 2-5 pm, is celebrating the Center's 50th anniversary! Proceeds raised from Tabemasho support the Center's activities and staff. As our local community center serving the Japantown and broader Japanese American community, The Center needs your help makes an impact throughout the rest of the year! Tickets available here. Japantenna returns! We are seeking volunteers for two exhibits scheduled for this fall. (1) Sat-Sun, 10/14-10/15: Japantenna Craft Valley - bringing together Toyama Prefecture and its cities of Himi, Nanto, and Takaoka, plus Hida City of Gifu Prefecture and Komatsu of Ishikawa Prefecture, Japantenna Craft Valley will showcase handicrafts and food from these unique rural communities. (2) Thurs - Sun, 11/16-11/29: Japantenna - In honor of the APEC Leaders Summit hosted by San Francisco that is expected to bring tens of thousands of officials, their staff and families, from across the Asia Pacific. There will be lots of free information and giveaways at this exhibit! Volunteers are needed to staff the exhibit, located at the Japantown Cultural District Visitor Center on the 2nd Floor of the Japan Center East Mall. Exhibit hours will be 11 am - 5 pm. Volunteers are asked to staff set-up and clean-up as well. A sign-up sheet is forthcoming, but for now, if you are interested in volunteering, please contact info@japanenna.org with your availability.
